Glitter on a Gloomy Day

Now I do not want to beat around the bush so I thought you all should know that I have an obsession with glitter. I do not mean that I buy stuff strictly because they have glitter, oh no I take every day objects and add glitter to them. For the most part I am not a girly girl, I am not constantly in pink, I would rather wear jeans for the rest of my life, and I swear like a sailor. That being said, I have more glitter in my room then a strip club in Vegas. My biggest offense would have to be taking old sauce jars, cleaning them up and then covering the whole thing with glitter so I can use it for storing my stuff. See I am what one might call cheap. Why would I go out and buy a jewelry holder, or something for my pencils when I can just make it myself?
Okay now comes the part where I show you all that I have glittered....so far. There is no rhyme or reason to why I have done what I have done, it just looks so cool that I do it again.

First up we have my make-up brushes. I mostly did this because I wanted to be able to tell mine apart from everyone else's, but also I had a glittery nail polish that I had got from the dollar store that looked great in the bottle, but not so much on my nails. So all I did was wash the handle of my brushes off and then coat them with nail polish and let them dry. Simple as that. And I must say they look awesome. The plus side to this is that the handles never really get dirty and worn down because of the nail polish. It is kind of a pointless craft to do, but I think it adds a little personality to the brushes and I have some that are different colors so it unifies them. Yes I know that sounds a little like OCD, but look at them and try to tell me they do not look adorable.

The next glitter project I love that I have are the pasta sauce ones. It is so easy to just soak them in water to get the label off and clean them and then just throw some glitter on there. They way I do it is slightly different then what I have seen on Pinterest, so I might do a post on that, we will see. But they are perfect for holding pencils, combs, anything. I like the ones that are not so closed at the top because then you can put more stuff in them, but regardless they still rock. We had a salsa jar that was just perfect for holding lip gloss so I jumped on that bad boy right away. Pickle jars are actually really good for this kind of stuff.

Beer bottles. Now you are probably scratching your head thinking "Kim, why in the world would you take a beer bottle and add glitter to it??" Bracelet holder my friends, say it with me. After years of shopping I have TONS of bangles that I wanted to be able to see. I actually used a wine bottle when I was in college to display my bracelets, but beer bottles work just as well. The only con about this is that some brands are too slim and the bracelets slide right down to the bottom. I am drying to figure out a way to fix this. The great thing is though that since I did these myself and spent no money on them, I have no problem tossing them if they break or just do not work. It make look like alcoholic art, but you know what, I do not care.

Candle holders are great to reuse and come in all shapes and sizes. Personally I like the ones from Bath and Body works because they are just a sphere unlike Yankee Candles which bell at the top. I have used both though and have had great results with both. I use the smaller ones for storing bobby pins and the larger ones for my eye-liner and mascara. My favorite one of all would have to be the one I store my make-up brushes in. It is from a random candle my mom got for Christmas and had a great shape so I knew when it was done it was mine.

I also made some magnets and tacks glitterific, but they are not up to par to be put on the Internet so those will have to wait. When it comes to doing crafts with glitter I do like a fine glitter over everything else, but when it comes down to it I will use anything. Martha Stewart has a great variety of glitter and Recollections at Michael's has a great collection of glitter in both color and texture type. I will buy some if there is a sale or if I have a coupon and a specific project in mind, a little goes a long way with this stuff. Also word to the wise, if you are gonna do crafts with this stuff, shower after. Sadly I have gone out with glitter all over my face and chest because I did not realize it, lets just say I got lots of stripper comments that day.

So enjoy your glitter, glitter some stuff yourself and I promise you will be hooked. Hope this post brightened everyone's day, if the weather for you was like mine, then you needed it. Happy Glittering!
