Dollar Store Finds

Sorry for the hiatus, I was sick and then had plans that took me away from the computer, but I am backkk. Recently I went to the dollar store and found some great beauty finds. Most of what I got are elf products that I was unable to find at Target and were not really worth it to buy online. Enjoy. :)

Elf shimmering facial whip in spotlight

Elf Blush in Glow (top) and Bronzed (bottom)

Elf Liquid Lipstick in Pink Lemonade

Elf Clarifying Powder in Light

Elf Professional Brushes, Blending Brush and Eyeshadow Brush

Miracle Nail Hardener

So that is everything I got! I am actually going to use the clear nail project for a little project I wanted to do so hopefully there will be a post about that soon. I already tried out the blush in "bronze" and I really like it. It is matte so that is always a plus when it comes to bronzer. It looks dark in the picture and in the compact but on my skin it looks like the perfect shade. I also tried the shimmering facial whip and I liked it as well. I used it as an eyebrow highlight because it is far too shimmery to put anywhere else on my face. I will add some more posts as I try out the other things I bought. So go to the dollar store and see if you can find anything awesome.

Sickness Necessities

Recently, I came down with a cold as the change in weather swept over New England. I have a history of having an absolutely horrible immune system. Ever since I was little when I get a cold, it lasts for two weeks minimum and it just totally stinks. That being said, I have perfected the art of treating my colds and also trying to not let it bring me down. Now I am in no way, shape, or form in any field of medicine so my necessities for when I want to feel better are all my own opinion and based off my experiences. With that being said, here are my must-haves for getting better, and feeling better.

1) Tylenol Cold Multi-Symptom, night time

Okay right off the bat I should let you all know I stopped taking daytime medicine years ago. There is no rhyme or reason to why it happens, but I always get bad reactions to daytime medicine so I thought it would be better to just cut it out completely. Also, it kinda freaks me out driving while on that stuff no matter what the ingredients are. During the day if I need anything I will have cough drops. If I am lucky enough to have a day off while sick, I will take the nighttime stuff and try to sleep off the cold. Recently I read that suppressing the fever ends up prolonging the cold, so I basically only take medicine for half the cold hoping the fever would break during the day. Now I have tried a lot of cold medicine in my time, and this is hands down my favorite. Other brands are good, but I found that this one is the most effective for me, without side effects that I found other medicines have given me. Personally this one cleared my stuffy nose better than any other brand.

2) Emergen-C, super orange

This stuff is GREAT! I started taking this after seeing all the commercials about a year ago. Now every time I feel a cold coming on, or everyone around me is sick, I start taking this right away. I found it actually helps the cold go away, but it also makes me feel better. It gives you energy that is much needed when you are groggy from cold medicine or just need a pick me up. I have tried the super orange and raspberry flavor and super orange is the way to go. Raspberry tasted way too much like medicine for my liking and barely got through five packets of it. Sick or not, it is a great item to have on a regular basis.

3) Peppermint Tea

This tea is great, the peppermint clears up stuffy noses and helps you breathe. The brand does not matter, just make sure it is peppermint. I would drink some tea whenever I was feeling overly stuffy and did not want to take something. It really helps with congestion and warm tea always makes you feel a little better.

4) Clay Mask

Okay, so this is pure vanity, but sometimes when you are sick, you look sick. I know that when I get a cold my skin tends to get a little more oily and I breakout. Doing this mask once or twice during my cold and it made me feel better. It dried out my skin and also cooled down my face which is a plus when you are running a fever. Feeling like my skin was not totally disgusting helped me not be as pissed that I was sick. Also I told myself that by cleaning out my pores I was also getting the cold out of my body. A little mind over matter if you will.

5) Sleep and Relax

Yes I know this is a huge "duh", but sometimes when you are sick you push it more than you should. I pretty much became a hermit and did not see my friends for awhile because I know I would be out late and that would not make me feel any better. When I had to work while sick I would still try as hard as I could, but when I did not feel well I did not push it. If you have a job that is understanding, take a break every now and then. You will not be doing any one any favors by pushing yourself and becoming more sick. When I had a day off I pretty much slept all day, as lazy as that sounds it was necessary. Luckily my cold only lasted a week for once and I think it had to do with all the steps I took and stuff I took. Hope this helps everyone :)

My Trip to Minnesota

About a month ago I took my first plane ride ever! I went to Minnesota to see my wonderful best friend Lindsey. I needed to get away for awhile so I went out there for a week and it was a blast. Not gonna lie I thought it might be a little boring out there since it is a lot of cornfields and hospitals, but there was so much to do I was amazed. Now prepare yourself because I have a lot of pictures that will be going up, and many of them are landscape so stick with me.

Right off the bat let me tell you about my first plane ride. To say I was nervous would be an epic understatement. I think I have watched too many shows about planes and security because I was worried about not following some guideline and then not being allowed on the plane. Based on my luck that would most likely happen to me. Thank the Lord above it did not. The carrier I took was Sun Country and I highly recommend it to everyone out there. It is not a large carrier, but they are worth it. I only paid around $320 for both flights and picking my own seat. I had a nonstop flight to MN which no other carrier did. The plane is not a huge one which was oddly comforting. By golly I had the whole row to myself! I really did not take advantage of it though cause I felt bad, but it was perfect for when everyone once and awhile I would remember how high up in the air I was. All in all my first flight was great, a little bumpy before the landing, but hell I will take it!

There was so much to do in the city of Rochester, movies on the lawn, tons of stores, community events and just beautiful scenery. We went to the Mall of America as soon as I got off the plane. Then we went back relaxed at Lindsey's and went out for some drinks. It had been far too long since the last time I saw her so pretty much anything we did would have been fine for me. I am truly blessed to have her as a best friend because not only did she open her home to me, but she and her boyfriend also made sure we always had fun stuff to do and made sure I had an awesome time.

As you will see in the next few pictures, Minnesota is beautiful. Now as someone born and raised in New England I will always find beauty in being able to see mountains and hills everywhere, but seeing rows of corn go on for miles is so surreal. The way they are lined makes it look like a wave going across the hill. We went to a lake 45 minutes away from where they live and I was in love with it. Being able to see Minnesota on one side and Wisconsin on the other was super cool. And they were within swimming distance for the adventurous.

I had so much fun while I was there and I cannot wait to go back when the time comes up. Not only was it great to see Lindsey, but it was great to be part of the new place she calls home. It was nice just being able to see the Mayo Clinic where she works, and just having goofy times together like we did in college. We did have Bridezilla marathons almost everyday before bed. As someone who never went anywhere alone, it was so freeing. I feel like I can conquer the world now. Even if it is one blog post at a time.
